Sending the contractor a Manual J, and Duct Design will ensure they are bidding apples to apples, not apples to oranges.

Are you planning an addition to your home? Your current unit is sized to cool and heat the house the way it was designed when the unit was installed. That addition might mean that your unit is now undersized. Yikes! On the other hand. Have you added insulation to your attic, or installed energy efficient windows, or built a patio that blocks direct sunlight to your windows?
